Library Policies: Overview
The Jackson County Library is committed to providing a welcoming, safe, and enriching environment for all patrons. Our policies outline expectations for behavior within the library, standards for responsible internet and technology use, and the principles guiding the development and maintenance of our collection.
Patrons are encouraged to enjoy the full range of library services—reading materials, research tools, computer access, programs, and staff assistance—while respecting guidelines designed to protect the comfort and safety of all visitors. These include maintaining appropriate conduct, caring for personal belongings, supervising minors, and refraining from disruptive, unsafe, or unlawful activities. Staff may intervene when necessary to uphold a peaceful environment, and repeated violations may affect a patron’s library privileges.
Internet access is provided through public computers and wi-fi, filtered in compliance with state and federal standards. Patrons are responsible for using the internet safely and appropriately. Staff can offer general assistance but cannot handle private information or create accounts on behalf of patrons. Sessions may be terminated if online activity violates library rules, and misuse may result in temporary or extended loss of access.
The library’s collection is curated to meet the educational, cultural, and recreational needs of our diverse community. Materials are selected using established criteria and maintained through regular review, weeding, and replacement. Donations and memorials are welcomed and evaluated carefully to ensure they support the collection’s goals. Patrons may request new materials or submit reconsideration forms if they have concerns about an item’s placement or suitability.
